Jha takes over as CIL Chairman

Nirmal Chandra Jha took over as Chairman of Coal India Limited (CIL) on Tuesday. He would continue to hold his present charge as Director-Technical. He took over from P. S. Bhattacharyya who laid down office on February 28.

However, Mr. Jha, has had to relinquish the additional charge of Chairman-cum-Managing Director of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). A. K. Singh, CMD, Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL took over additional charge as CMD of SECL.

The government order regarding Mr. Jha's appointment for a three-month period was received late on Monday.

Soon after taking charge, he told The Hindu that liquidating the nearly 59 million tonne coal inventory was one of his immediate tasks in the near-term. Improving rail connectivity and increasing offtake was one of the most important tasks before CIL now, he said.
