Tikona Digital launches Wi-Bro service

Tikona Digital Networks (TDN), a new entrant in the wireless broadband market, on Wednesday said it would roll out its services in 50 cities in the current year. The company has launched its services using 4G (fourth generation) telecom technologies, promising greater Internet speed and high level of security.

Bundled offer

“Our Tikona Wi-Bro service is now available in 10 cities and we plan to spend Rs. 500 crore to expand our network nationally. We are currently building a network of over 40-lakh connections and plan to further expand it to help India achieve its ambitious broadband penetration goals,” said TDN Founder, Managing Director and CEO, Prakash Bajpai. The company is offering wireless broadband service, starting at Rs. 449. It has also bundled anti-virus solution to its offering.

Stating that they were aiming 10-lakh customers in the next two years, Mr. Bajpai said “At present, In India not only is the broadband penetration very low compared to that of mobiles, but also consumers face problems such as slow and inconsistent speed, poor quality of customer support, high billing without alerts to users, longer wait period for installation by operators, lack of innovative service or too many plans. We have tried to address all these problems to give customers unique broadband experience.”

“India has just a little under one-crore broadband users while China has more than 12 crore broadband users. China could reach this level as they had a large wireline plant of over 40-crore lines.

“India has only 4-crore and only a fraction of this is usable for broadband. Wireless broadband is the only option for India to increase its broadband base to levels that are similar to China,” Mr. Bajpai added.
