The Kerala Government is planning to promote women entrepreneurs as a ‘specific brand’ in the State, KSIDC Managing Director Aruna Sundararajan said on Tuesday.

At present, women entrepreneurs are mostly concentrated in units related to retail, fashion, food processing, wellness and beauty, the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) chief told reporters on the sidelines of a CII summit in Kochi.

“This needs to be changed and Government has started the WE (Women Entrepreneurship) project under which the sectors where women are available in large numbers would be promoted.

“Besides, a set of incubators and mentors would be created for startups in this area, creating a common platform for women,” she added.

The State Government also plans to set up a facility for incubating 1,000 startups under a multi product startup village at Kochi on the lines of startup village developed for technology, she said.

Kerala has a huge strength in the creative industry. We are looking at creating a hub for unconventional startups, she added.
