Simmtronics Semiconductors Ltd on Tuesday announced a tie-up with Digilife Distribution and Marketing Services Ltd (DDMS), a 100 per cent subsidiary of HCL Infosystems Ltd, to distribute its tablets in India.
“Through this tie-up, Simmtronics is looking forward to additional turnover of Rs 300 crore and six lakh tablets in the year 2013,” senior Simmtronics officials told reporters here.
Simmtronics Managing Director Indrajit Sabharwal said the company would foray into the smartphones market, with the launch of at least five models soon, at aggressive price points.
The company, which has three manufacturing facilities in India and one each in Dubai and Singapore, launched its tablets in the Middle East and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries two years and in India some six-seven months ago.
Sabharwal said officials of some top global tablet makers visited the company’s facilities in India and Simmtronics is in discussion with them to manufacture the products for them.
The company also announced that it has just signed a licensing agreement with Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson vis-a-vis certain patented technologies developed by the latter.
DDMS Chief Executive Sanjay David said, in general 16 million or “probably more” tablets, including six million government orders, are expected to be sold in India this year.
