Public sector miner NMDC on Wednesday got some relief when the Mines Tribunal issued a stay order on the decision of the Karnataka government to withdraw extension of the mining lease of Donimalai mine.

A release from NMDC late in the evening said the Tribunal heard submissions made by the NMDC and ordered: “Accordingly the impugned order dated 17.08.2019 [of Karnataka government]and any consequent action thereon are stayed until the next date of hearing”.

The stay order would prohibit the State government to take any further action regarding mining lease or initiate auction process of the Donimalai mine, the company said.

The order of the Tribunal followed a revision petition filed by the NMDC on August 19, challenging the order issued by Karnataka government withdrawing the extension of mining lease of Donimalai iron ore mine, which it had granted earlier for a period of 20 years till November 3, 2038.
