Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, on his third visit to India, said he wants the company to be a platform “that invokes the ingenuity of people” in the country.

“It’s not about celebrating our technologies, it is about really celebrating the technologies that you all in India create,” Mr. Nadella told developers and entrepreneurs at Microsoft’s ‘Tech for Good, Ideas for India’ event here.

The 48-year-old India-born Mr. Nadella evoked Urdu and Persian-language poet Mirza Ghalib’s shayari (poetry).

Hazaaron khwahishen aisi ke har khwahish pe dam nikle, Bahut niklay mere armaan, lekin phir bhi kam nikle ( Thousands of desires, each worth dying for... many of them I have realized...yet I yearn for more...),” he said at the beginning of his speech.

“My interpretation of Ghalib’s saying changes every year. I learn something new, there are so many layers and labyrinths in there that every time I sort of, I kind of feel like I’ve learnt it again, that I have figured it out... it is not just your dreams being fulfilled, it is your ability to dream things that are worth dying for.”

The Microsoft CEO said cloud computing and virtual reality will drive technology in the future.

“It’s so inspiring for me to come here to see this broad spectrum of student developers, entrepreneurs, artists and even some big brands, e-commerce companies who are all changing the landscape of India and thereby, the world,” he said, adding that it was a “privilege” to be “a platform underneath this Indian success.”

Mr. Nadella also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad .

“Discussed various issues pertaining to the IT sector with @Microsoft CEO @satyanadella,” the Prime Minister tweeted post the meeting.

Mr. Prasad also tweeted, “CEO @Microsoft @satyanadella met me today. Discussed in enhancing cooperation with Microsoft towards @_DigitalIndia.”
