Maruti March sales down 4.8 %

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), on Tuesday, reported a 4.8 per cent decline in sales in March at 1,19,937 units against 1,25,952 units sold in the same month last year.

However, for the financial year 2012-13, the company saw a growth of 3.3 per cent at 11,71,434 units as compared to 11,33,695 units in 2011-12.

Domestic sales stood at 1,07,890 units in March 2013, down 4.3 per cent from 1,12,724 units in the year-ago period. For the fiscal, domestic sales rose 4.44 per cent to 10,51,046 units from 10,06,316 units in the previous fiscal, the company said.

MSI’s exports last month fell 8.9 per cent to 12,047 units from 13,228 units in the year-ago period, while in the whole of 2012-13 it declined by 5.5 per cent to 1,20,388 units from 1,27,379 units in 2011-12.

In March 2013, passenger car sales declined by 6.9 per cent to 91,896 from 98,758, while there was a rise of 0.7 per cent in sales at 8,61,337 units in the whole of 2012-13 against 8,55,730 units in the previous fiscal. Sales of mini segment passenger cars, including the M800, A-Star, Alto and WagonR, fell 14.7 per cent to 45,047 units from 52,826 units in March 2012.

In the compact segment (comprising Estilo, Swift and Ritz models), the company witnessed a 7.3 per cent dip in sales to 25,868 units from 27,913 units in the same month a year ago.

Sales of DZiRE increased by 22 per cent to 20,078 units from 16,451 units. However, its mid-sized sedan SX4’s sales slipped by 40.6 per cent to 903 units from 1,520 units in the year-ago month. Sales of utility vehicles, including Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, went up by over four-fold to 6,488 units from 1,530 units in the year-ago period.
