The KIOCL Ltd., earlier Kudremukh Iron Ore Ltd., on Wednesday entered into a pact with NMDC Ltd., to operate and maintain the latter’s iron ore beneficiation and pellet plants at Donimalai in Ballary district of Karnataka.

After closure of the Kudremukh mining site, the KIOCL had been finding it difficult to operate its beneficiation and pellet plants at Mangaluru without a captive mine. The new pact, which was in the air for quite some time, would help KIOCL to put to use its experience and expertise in the field.

A release from KIOCL said the NMDC had set up the 1.89 million ton per annum capacity beneficiation plant and 1.2 million ton per annum plant for commercial pellet manufacture at Donimalai. KIOCL had offered its services for operation and maintenance of these plants. The agreement was signed by KIOCL’s Director (Production and Projects) N. Vidyananda and NMDC’s Executive Director C.E. Kindo.

NMDC Chairman and Managing Director Narendra Kotari and KIOCL’s CMD Malay Chatterjee were present.

Mr. Chatterjee was quoted in the release as saying the contract would facilitate KIOCL to gainfully utilize its experienced manpower for operating the NMDC plants for mutual benefit of both the central government undertakings and thanked the Ministry of Steal for facilitating the proposal.

He highlighted that the “Operation and Maintenance Vertical” that he has spearheaded for implementation as a diversification measure, has come as a succor to the company in the absence of captive mines to utilise its available experienced competent manpower.
