Indigo tests sustainable aviation fuel

The plane - which took off from Toulouse in France and landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport - had a blend of 10% SAF and 90% normal fuel

IndiGo on Friday tested a flight with 10% blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Its brand new A320 Neo flew from Toulouse in France on Thursday and landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday powered by a blend of SAF.

Speaking on the occasion, airline’s CEO Ronojoy Dutta said that Friday’s trial was a part of several measures the airline was adopting to reduce emissions, including induction of fuel-efficient aircraft and carbon offsetting. The airline aimed to be achieve net zeo carbon emissions by 2050 in line with the goal laid out by International Air Transport Association.

SAF is not yet permitted for commercial flights in the country.

Remi Millard, President and MD, Airbus India and South Asia, said that all commercial planes of Airbus were certified to fly on 50% blend of SAF and by the end of the decade they would be able to fly on 100% blend of SAF.
