In an effort to have more small and medium-scale apparel manufacturers selling on its marketplace, e-retailer Flipkart plans to have programmes in textile clusters such as Tirupur, Ludhiana, Jaipur and Surat.

Vice-President of Flipkart Ankit Nagori told presspersons here on Friday that the company had tied up with Federation of Indian Micro and Small and Medium Enterprises recently. It would soon have a series of meetings at several clusters to bring in more SME sellers, he added. The Flipkart marketplace has more than 3,000 sellers, and this includes 1,000 in the fashion segment. The total number of sellers is expected to go up to 12,000 by the end of this year, and those in the fashion segment will be about 4,000. Branded apparel constitutes nearly 20 per cent of the total apparel market in the country. Flipkart has a substantial share in branded apparel e-commerce.

Flipkart would also be focusing on the home and kitchen category, he said.
