Major auto makers reported increase in their sales in February, showing a revival in the market after prolonged sluggishness.
Maruti Suzuki recorded its highest domestic sales registering a growth of 6.5 per cent in February.
Hyundai Motor reported highest ever sales in the domestic market at 36,805 units compared to 32,629 units in the year-ago period, registering a growth of 12.8 per cent. Its exports went down by 22.3 per cent to 15,050 units during the month under review from 19,378 units in the same period last year.
Mahindra & Mahindra's (M&M) total sale of passenger vehicles stood at 20,573 units during the month under review as against 15,439 units in February 2011, a growth rate of 33.25 per cent.
General Motors India posted a 4.32 per cent decline in its sales at 8,901 units compared to 9,303 units in the same month last year.
Ford India also reported a 2.82 per cent fall in its total sales during February at 10,424 units as against 10,726 units in the corresponding month last year.
2-wheelers do well
In the two-wheeler segment, Hero MotoCorp reported 10.9 per cent rise in its sales for February at 5,23,465 units. It had sold 4,72,055 units in February 2011. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India saw 41.30 per cent growth in its total sales at 2,06,043 units compared to 1,45,819 units . Suzuki Motorcycle India reported a 29.85 per cent increase in its sales to 37,336 units from 28,754 units.
TVS Motor's total sales declined by 3 per cent to 1,72,061 units from 1,77,412 units. Its two-wheeler sales fell by 2.43 per cent to 1,68,996 units from 1,73,200 units in the year-ago period.
