Amazon India has decided to promote all its 14,000 assisted online shopping points in 21 States across the country under Amazon Easy brand, starting with 200 such facilities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

All the points — essentially stores dealing in a host of items from groceries, medicines and mobiles besides some exclusive outlets — will be branded Amazon Easy by middle of 2019, said Kishore Thota, director-customer experience and marketing, Amazon India.

Under Amazon Easy, staff of offline stores in tier 2 and 3 markets are trained to help customers shop on Amazon.in and earn commission themselves. In the two States, where there are 1,200 such stores, the process would be rolled out in 200 stores across six districts and expected to be completed by Diwali, Mr. Thota said on Tuesday.

An India-specific initiative to help customers in smaller markets, Project Uddan, as it was initially codenamed, will break transaction barriers for first time online shoppers like trust, Internet access, language and digital payments. The project, whose pilot was launched in 2015, is expected to help Amazon position itself well as many more million join an estimated 100 million e-commerce customers in the country.

The stores also serve as the first point of customer service.
