Euro-IV fuel norm from April 1

March 20, 2010 12:51 am | Updated 12:51 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Dispelling speculation about lack of preparedness on the part of the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry to adhere to the deadline on the introduction of new fuel norm, Petroleum Secretary S. Sundereshan on Friday asserted that oil marketing companies (OMCs) were all geared to roll out the Euro-IV standard fuel across 13 metros.

Talking to The Hindu here, Mr. Sundereshan said that this was one of the greatest tasks achieved by the OMCs which had made investments of nearly Rs. 13,000-14,000 crore to expand capacities and upgrade refineries to meet the new norms that come in effect from next month.

Mr. Sudereshan said that apart from the 13 metros where the Euro-IV norms come into force by April 1, the rest of the country would have Euro-III norm fuel flowing latest by October.

Refusing to accept that there have been delays to failure to adhere to deadlines, the Petroleum Secretary said it was not something that could be done in a day.
