R.V. Ramani graduated in Physics from Mumbai University and took up photojournalism as a profession for 3 years. He then joined the Film and TV Institute of India, Pune, graduating in 1985, specializing in Motion Picture Photography.
He moved to Chennai around 1989 and since then has been associated in many films, in various genres, as a cinematographer. Today he is considered one of the leading documentary filmmakers in India, who has established a unique style of his own, with more than 20 independent impressionistic documentaries to his credit.
Ramani’s films deals with various aspects of expressions and his last film, My Camera and Tsunami made in 2012, is known for its very innovative form and structure. Ramani regularly conducts workshops on various aspects of documentary filmmaking at various Film schools. He is currently working on many feature length documentaries.
