District-level committees of Human Rights Commission demanded

Raichur: Members of the District Human Rights Organisation took out a procession and staged a dharna here on Wednesday demanding the State Government to establish district-level committees of Human Rights Commission at all district headquarters in the Hyderabad Karnataka region.

About 20 activists led by Chandrakant, president of the organisation, staged a dharna on the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

They submitted a memorandum to Headquarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner Bangaramma.

In the memorandum they urged Home Minister M.P. Prakash to establish district-level committees of the Human Rights Commission at all district headquarters in the region to provide equal opportunities to all citizens to protect their rights in various fields.

Funds

They urged the Minister to identify recognised NGOs in the region and release funds to them to create awareness among the public on human rights. They asked the Minister to constitute district-level inquiry committees to handle cases related to violation of human rights. They also urged the Minister to educate the public on human rights with the help of the media.
