Bal Bharati Public School GRH Marg hosted its 7th All India Inter Unit Bal Bharati Sports Meet recently. The opening ceremony was held at its Pusa Road campus.
“Our conviction that sports can usher in equity and empowerment in the social fabric of our country marks the basis of this meets,” said L.M. Sehgal, principal of BBPS.
Acclaimed wrestling champion and Arjuna Awardee Sujeet Maan was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. while Delhi cricketer Parvinder Awana was the guest of honour.
“Such platforms are very essential for children at school level as they develop sporting spirits among them, being an active coach of Indian team I always encourage wrestling among youth,” said Mann. “We have decided to make games and sports important right from grassroots level, the purpose is to encourage humanity, brotherhood and competitive sprit in the children so that they are able to participate at national as well as international level,” added S. K. Bhattacharya, convenor, sports council of BBPS.
The inaugural ceremony began with a well-coordinated march past by 16 contingents representing their schools followed by school bands of various units of BBPS. It was followed by an oath-taking ceremony and lighting of the torch present in the arena. The varied audience witnessed with interest theenthusiastic and auspicious tone set by the welcome song and the series of folk dances which flagged off the three-day event.
