Defending champion Rafael Nadal says he initially thought he might have broken his left foot in his fourth-round match at Wimbledon and he’s worried whether he’ll be fit for his quarterfinal against Mardy Fish.
Nadal says he’ll get an MRI exam on his foot, which began hurting him during the first set of Monday’s 7—6 (6), 3—6, 7—6 (4), 6—4 victory over 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro.
Nadal was visited twice by a trainer during that set, including right before the tiebreaker. His foot was taped up during the second visit.
Still, the 10—time major champion improved to 30—2 at Wimbledon since the start of the 2006 tournament. He’s joined in the quarterfinals by the rest of the top four seeded men- Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray.
