Top seed Wing Yau Venise Chan of Hong Kong won the Ashok Kheny $10,000 ITF Bidar Open women’s Futures tennis championship at the Police Training School court here.
On a sunny Saturday morning, Venise Chan wasted little time in closing out the challenge from Japan’s Yumi Miyazaki 6-2, 6-3.
The 23-year-old Chan, despite her shaky first serve, proved too good for the erratic Miyazaki in the title contest which lasted little over an hour. In a baseline contest marked by prolonged rallies it was Chan who came out on top belting her ground strokes with power and accuracy.
The 650th-ranked Miyazaki had her chances when she cracked her rival a couple of times. But she failed to maintain her momentum with a slew of unforced errors.
In the first set, the 371st-ranked Chan broke her rival in the first and fifth games to take a 4-1 lead. Miyazaki cut back the deficit to 2-4 in the 6th game but there was no stopping Chan, who despite conceding a double fault, took the first set 6-2.
The second set also followed a similar pattern with Chan breaking her rival in the first and fifth games. And despite Miyazaki’s two break backs, Chan forced two more breaks in the 6th and 8th games for a 6-3 verdict and the trophy.
For her efforts Chan got $1,568 while, Miyazaki received $980.
