Rupesh stuns Abhijeet Tiwari

Unseeded Rupesh Roy of Bengal upset fifth-seeded Abhijeet Tiwari of Chhattisgarh 6-3, 6-2 in the men’s singles quarterfinals of the National grass-court tennis here on Thursday.

Rupesh will take on sixth-seeded Ramkumar Ramanathan of Tamil Nadu, who produced a tenacious performance to outclass second-seeded Nitten Kirrtane 6-3, 6-4.

In the top-half of the draw, eighth-seeded Saurav Sukul of Bengal breezed past Elwin Anthony of Tamil Nadu 6-3, 6-1 to make the last four stage.

In the women’s quarterfinals, Rushmi Chakravarthi of Tamil Nadu made a remarkable turnaround against a player 17 years younger when she beat Prarthana Thombare of Maharashtra in a tremendous show of tact and endurance.
