Men’s and women’s singles top seeds Vishnu Vardhan and Eetee Maheta crashed out of the Rs. 12-lakh Omkar All India ranking tennis championship held at the the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club here on Thursday.
Qualifier Mohit Mayur sent men’s no.1 seed Vishnu Vardhan packing in three sets in a second round match, while Eetee went down in three sets against unseeded Sowjanya Bavisetti in the women’s section.
Olympian Vardhan looked to be in control of the match till an inspired Mayur dug deep to win 3-6, 7-5 and 6-3 under two hours. Mayur will next face fellow qualifier Tushar Mandlekar who brushed aside Bruhad Mankad 6-1, 6-0.
Women’s top seed Eetee also suffered the same fate as she was knocked out by Sowjanya after winning the opening set like Vardhan. Sowjanya’s scoreline read 4-6, 6-3 and 6-3.

Women’s singles (Quarterfinals): Sowjanya Bavisetti beat Eetee Maheta 4-6, 6-3, 6-3; Nupur Kaul bt. Nehel Sahni 7-6, 6-3; Sharmada Balu beat Nithyaraj Baburaj 6-3, 6-0.
