Muted challenge from Chinese Taipei

January 23, 2014 12:02 am | Updated May 13, 2016 11:33 am IST - NEW DELHI

It will be a muted challenge from Chinese Taipei as it takes on host India in the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania group ‘I’ tennis tie to be played in Indore from January 31 to February 2.

Not only will the team miss the services of its leading player, the 53rd ranked Yen-Hsun Lu, it will not have its next two best players, World No. 173 Jimmy Wang and No. 262 Liang-Chi Huang either.

It may be recalled that India had defeated Chinese Taipei 3-2 in their only previous meeting, way back away in 2009, when Devvarman outclassed Yen-Hsun Lu dropping a mere six games in three sets.
