Chirag Duhan advances

Chirag Duhan demonstrated his fighting qualities with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 victory over third seed Taym Alazmeh of Syria in the second round of the Asian under-14 tennis championship here on Tuesday.

Joining him in the third round was top seed Udit Gogoi, who had to himself fight in a three-setter and Aman Dahiya.

Renne Singla had an equally absorbing victory in the third set tie-break against Maralgoo Chogsomjav of Mongolia in the girls event, while Sanjana Sirimalla cruised through.

The results (second round):

Boys: Udit Gogoi bt Rafiy Zulkamaaen (Ina) 4-6, 6-3, 6-1; Chirag Duhan bt Taym Alazmeh (Syr) 6-4, 5-7, 7-5; Aman Dahiya bt Nelaka Dissanayake 6-1, 6-2.

Girls: Sanjana Sirimalla bt Thaohan Le (Vie) 6-1, 6-1; Renne Singla bt Maralgoo Chogsomjav (Mgl) 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(4).
