Gilles Simon won the Marseille Open title for the second time on Sunday defeating fellow Frenchman Gael Monfils in three sets in the final.

Fifth seed Simon, who previously won the title in 2007, beat seventh-seeded Monfils 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4) in a final that lasted two-and-a-half hours.

At Rio de Janeiro, top-seeded defending champion Rafael Nadal saw his streak of 52 straight semifinals clay court wins stretching back to 12 years end on Saturday in the ATP & WTA Rio Open. Nadal lost to Italian Fabio Fognini 6-1, 2-6, 5-7.

Top-seeded Simona Halep earned the 10th title of her career and made it a Gulf double by capturing the WTA Dubai Open with a 6-4, 7-6(4) win over Karolina Pliskova.

ATP Marseille Open (final): Gilles Simon bt Gael Monfils 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4).

ATP & WTA Rio Open (semifinals): Men: Fabio Fognini bt Rafael Nadal 1-6, 6-2, 7-5; David Ferrer bt Andreas Haider-Maurer 7-5, 6-1.

Women: Anna Karolina Schmiedlova bt Irina Begu 6-3, 4-6, 6-2; Sara Errani bt Johanna Larsson 7-5, 6-3.

ATP Delray Beach Open: Ivo Karlovic bt Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-4; Donald Young bt Bernard Tomic 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

WTA Dubai Open (final): Simona Halep bt Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 7-6(4).
