Anand Amritraj backed Somdev Devvarman’s decision to pull out of the Asian Games.
“He has played a lot for the country,” Amritraj said. “He has always been there whenever called upon.
“He won the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games gold medals in 2010.
“I am sure the reason is that his ranking is down a bit and he would like to bring it back to the top-100 where I think he definitely belongs. If he plays Asian Games he will lose out on three tournaments. So I don’t see any problem at all with the decision.”
Amritraj added that doubles specialist Divij Sharan would be his replacement.
“We had named him as the seventh player. Now he will take Somdev’s place.”
