Solid start for Zimbabwe

August 04, 2011 06:17 pm | Updated 06:17 pm IST - Harare

Opener Vusi Sibanda hit an unbeaten half-century as Zimbabwe reached 102-1 at lunch on the first day of its return to Test cricket against Bangladesh at Harare Sports Club on Thursday.

Sibanda and opening partner Tino Mawoyo (43) batted steadily on a bouncy wicket, enjoying relative success against the Bangladesh seamers and giving the African country a solid start in its first Test in six years.

Sibanda struck five boundaries in his 50, while Test debutant Mawoyo hit seven boundaries before he was dismissed by Rubel Hossain three balls before lunch.

Sibanda survived a run out chance in the second over when Robiul Islam’s throw just missed the stumps with the batsman well out of his crease. Sibanda went on to record his maiden half-century off 101 balls.
