Wushu: bronze for Sanathoi and Grewal

September 24, 2014 01:28 am | Updated 01:28 am IST - Incheon:

Wushu players delivered two bronze medals through Yumnam Sanathoi Devi and Narender Grewal after they lost their respective semifinal contests to cap off India’s campaign on an impressive note on the fourth day of the competitions here on Tuesday.

Sanathoi lost to Zhang Luan of China in women’s Sanda 52kg category semifinals, while Grewal was defeated by Jean Claude Saclag of Philippines in men’s Sanda 60kg semifinals.

Both the Indians went down by identical 0-2 ‘win by round’ verdicts.

The two bronze medals ensured that wushu players managed to equal the two medals they bagged in the 2010 edition in Guangzhou, China, where India won a silver and a bronze.

Sanathoi could not give much fight to her Chinese opponent who was clearly the better player in the contest and it was no surprise that the Manipuri lost in the first two rounds.

After losing the first round, Grewal kept on trying his best to take the second but his opponent was up to the task and the Indian had to be content with the bronze.
