Not many will be aware that M.S.K. Prasad, the BCCI senior selection panel chairman, owes his cricketing career to the father of champion shuttler K. Srikanth.

“As a kid, I used to be at the training venue of the Guntur district cricket team when Srikanth’s father K.V.S. Prasad (whom MSK calls as Kittu Babai even now) was playing with his teammates. He saw me waiting for hours watching them in action,” he recalled.

“After a couple of days, he called me and handed over the gloves to do the wicketkeeping since there was no chance for me to train as a batsman or a bowler. That’s how my stint behind the stumps began,” MSK said in a chat with The Hindu .

As Srikanth has become World No. 1 in men’s singles, MSK is understandably elated with the former’s feat.

“My hearty congratulations to Srikanth for reaching numero uno in world badminton rankings.

“It’s a phenomenal achievement for the young lad from Guntur,” he said.

“I also congratulate Gopi (chief national coach P. Gopi Chand) who has put in so much of hard work behind Srikanth’s success,” he said.
