India got on to the medals table on the ninth day of the Deaflympics here, thanks to its wrestlers and golfer.

Virender Singh clinched gold in the men’s 74kg freestyle wrestling, beating Shakro Chakvetadze of Georgia 18-9 in the final. He beat Batbaatar Shirendev (Monglia) 6-4 and Maksim Slapic (Belarus) 6-2 in the semifinals and quarterfinals.

Two bronzes were won through repechage in wrestling by Ajay Kumar (65kg) and Sumit Dahiya (97kg). Ajay beat Argishti Babayan (Armenia) by a technical fall in the bronze bout after losing to Dorjdagua Chinzorig (China) in the quarterfinals. Sumit also won his medal by a technical fall against Mohammmad Rasoul Ghamar (Iran) after going down to Ichan Citak (Turkey) in the quarterfinals.

In golf, Diksha Dagar missed the gold in the final round against Kaylin Yost (USA). Seeded directly into the semifinals, in a field of six after the qualification rounds, she got past Amelie Gonzalez (Germany). India has one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
