Boxer Vikas Krishan had made a prediction that he would get a bronze medal, weeks before he landed in Brazil.
The Asian Games gold medallist and World championship bronze medallist put himself closer to his prediction by reaching the quarterfinals of the middleweight class at the Riocentro Pavilion on Friday.
The 24-year-old Vikas won a unanimous 3-0 points decision from the judges as he beat Sipal Onder of Turkey, in the pre-quarterfinals.
He dominated in the second round when all the judges gave him 10 points, and he could convince two judges in the first and third rounds to rule it in his favour.
In the quarterfinals, the seventh-seeded Vikas will challenge the second seed Bektemir Melikuziev of Uzbekistan, the World championship silver medallist and the Asian champion.
A semifinal entry will ensure a medal and Vikas will attempt to emulate Mary Kom and Vijender Singh in winning Olympic medals, when he competes in the quarterfinals on Independence Day.
