The city will witness a national event as the 10th mini (u-14) and 2nd kids (u-9) archery championship will be held at Siddhartha Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology college grounds from October 23 to October 28.

As many as 800 archers from 25 States are taking part in both the categories; Indian Army had also sent its boys’ team.

“We are staging the national archery event for the eighth time in Vijayawada. Apart from hotels and guest houses, we have requested the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation to allot DRRMC indoor stadium and Patamata Indoor Stadium for the archers and their parents,” said organising secretary Cherukuri Satyanarayana.

Several archery administrators including Archery Association of India general secretary Anil Kamineni will take part in the event .

The competitions will be held in three categories - Indian Round, recurve and compound, and winners of the mini segment will be considered for the government-sponsored training camps.

Mr. Satyanarayana said Visakhapatnam was chosen by the national federation to stage a children’s archery event as a demonstration event in 2015, and later it gave green signal to stage national events to promote the game among kids across the country.

“Hundreds of grandparents have landed at Vijayawada along with their grandsons and granddaughters to witness the kids’ event. We are also helping them visit the tourists’ places in and around Vijayawada,” Mr. Satyanarayana added.
