A. Veera Raghavan of Loyola clinched the table tennis singles title (The Father’s Principal Cup) with a 4-1 (8-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-4, 11-9) win over his college-mate M. Karthik in the Bertram memorial tournaments at Loyola here on Thursday.

After losing the first game, the 18-year-old — a trainee of Lord’s Table Tennis Academy — showed remarkable fighting spirit and attacking instincts to pocket the next three games. In the decider, Raghavan, at 8-9, was lucky to get a net-chord point after a pretty long rally. Karthik fluffed the remaining two points to enable Raghavan bag the Cup.

The results: Table Tennis (finals): Singles: A. Veera Raghavan (Loy) bt M. Karthik (Loy) 8-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-4, 11-9. Doubles: S. Prasanna & Ajay Bharadwaj (St. Joseph’s COE) bt M. Karthik & Kamal Teja (Loy) 6-11, 11-6, 11-4, 10-12, 11-6, 11-6.

Volleyball (quarterfinal league): Panimalar EC bt Sri Krishna EC 26-24,25-18; DB Jain bt PSG Arts & Science (Cbe) 25-14, 25-20; Panimalar bt STC (Pollachi) 25-21, 27-25, 25-21.
