The role of the sponsor, True Value Homes (TNH) in supporting the FIBA-Asia women’s championship, has come in for appreciation from the basketball fraternity. Apart from making the JN Indoor Stadium fit enough for a five-star event like the FIBA-Asia, TVH, has ensured a facility for the development of growth of basketball in the State.
The spirit behind the venture is K.N. Ramajayam, Working President of the Organising Committee.
Mr. Ramajayam is elated that the efforts taken by TVH have earned the approbation of top officials of FIBA-Asia and players taking part in the women’s championship.
Acknowledging the support and help from the State Government, Mr. Ramajayam said TVH had spent Rs.1.3 crore towards developing the infrastructure.
“We do not want anything back, but will be satisfied if the stadium is used well for helping the youth of the state,” he observed.
Mr. Ramajayam is confident that Chennai will become the preferred centre for international basketball.
The chances of this metropolis hosting the Commonwealth Championship have improved remarkably after the improvements made to the JN Stadium.
The BFI is also contemplating bidding for the World Junior Championship taking advantage of the state-of-the-art facilities now acquired for staging the FIBA-Asia championship.
Mr. Ramajayam has offered continuous help and support for the cause of promotion of basketball in the State.
