Surbhi Mishra and Anaka Alankamony scored an important victory over Kenya's Safina Madhan and 12-year-old Khaaliqa Nimji to stay alive in the women's doubles section of the Commonwealth Games squash competition here on Sunday.
The Indian pair won 11-2, 11-4 in just 13 minutes to post their first victory in the league, having lost the opener on Saturday.
In men's doubles, however, there was disappointment for the large crowd.
Harinder Pal Sandhu and Sandeep Jangra failed to make the round of 16 after losing to Malaysia's Mohammad Nafizwan and Mohammad Azlan Iskandar 11-6, 7-11, 7-11.
“It was a good match and the intensity was high. Its disappointing that we could not hold on to the lead. They (Malaysians) were patient and a few errors also cost us the match. They were hitting the ball hard and was putting pressure on us,” said Sandhu after the loss.
All the seeded pairs won comfortably on this day.
India's big hope in mixed doubles, Saurav Ghosal and Joshna Chinappa will be in action on Monday in their bid to make the knockout round.
