Shooters denied entry

January 15, 2013 11:52 pm | Updated 11:52 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

A bunch of 72 shooters, including 10 internationals from nine Universities, have written to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) about being stopped from competition and also being roughed up at the all-India inter-University shooting championship at the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, on Tuesday.

The shooters stated that entry was on arrival till last year, and they were being denied entry this time on the pretext that the Universities concerned had not sent their entries in detail in advance. The Universities had responded by stating that the notification regarding the new rule and the last date for acceptance of entries had not been received.

The shooters tried to make a protest at the range before the start of the event, demanding that their entries be accepted.

A bunch of officials, including GNDU coaches, reportedly tried to evacuate the protesting shooters, and one of the shooters fell on the table and hurt his head, leading to a bleeding injury, according to the complaint made to the NRAI.
