Michael Schumacher remains in a critical but stable condition in a Grenoble hospital following a skiing accident, the Formula One racing legend’s manager, Sabine Kehm, confirmed to DPA on Saturday.
The seven time world champion’s family has also voluntarily provided French investigators with the helmet camera that Schumacher was wearing when the accident occurred.
Schumacher has been in a medically induced coma since Sunday, when he struck his head on a rock and suffered severe brain injuries while skiing off-piste at the Meribel resort in the French Alps.
“He skied over a rocky outcrop that he had overlooked, and lost control as a result. That he then hit his head on another rock is really, really unfortunate,” Kehm told the German mass circulation Bild newspaper.
“He was not going too fast. It was a normal turning manoeuvre.” Kehm also reiterated the family’s request for privacy at this time while playing down ongoing media speculation about Schumacher’s health.
“We categorically state that any information about his medical condition that does not originate from treating doctors or his management is invalid and pure speculation,” Kehm said in a written statement.
Following discussions with Schumacher’s medical team, a new press conference about the 45-year-old’s condition is now not expected before Monday.
The previous update on the seven-time world champion’s condition came on Wednesday, when he was also described as being in a critical but stable condition following two emergency operations.
