Saina bows out of Hong Kong Super Series

India’s Saina Nehwal bowed out of the Hong Kong Super Series after losing to Jie Yao of the Netherlands 16-21, 12-21 in the first round.

Indian men’s doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas defeated Malaysian Pak Chu Chow and Chieng Hun Hong 21-8, 21-9 to move into the second round.

In the women’s doubles, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa beat Thailand’s Savitree Amitrapai and Vacharaporn Munkit 21-18, 21-18 in the first round.

Gutta combined with V. Diju to beat Poland’s Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Kostiuczyk 17-21, 21-15, 21-12 in the first round.
