In the presence of some top gymnasts from countries like Australia, England and Canada, Indian athletes will try for decent finishes in the Commonwealth Games rhythmic gymnastics competitions, which start at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here from Tuesday.

The Australian team is led by Pacific Rim championship bronze medallist and Olympian Naazmi Johnston. Another Pacific medallist Janine Murray and World championship participant Danielle Prince will also boost the side's quest for grabbing maximum top honours in the event.

England is also represented by the formidable trio of Rachel Ennis, the fourth placed gymnast in the 2006 Games, and former junior British champions Francesca Fox and Lynne Hutchinson.

Former National champions Mariam Chamilova and Dementra Mantcheva and Pacific medallist Nerissa Mo of Canada are expected to provide a stiff challenge to Australia and England.

Mumbai girls Kshipra Joshi, Akshata Shete and Pooja Surve will represent the host. The team event is scheduled for Tuesday. Individual events will be held on the next two days.
