Remembering Harish Sharma

March 11, 2012 01:54 am | Updated 01:54 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken announced on Saturday that his ministry would institute a trophy and an award in memory of basketball official Harish Sharma who passed away last month.

At a heavily-attended condolence meeting at the Mavlankar Hall on Saturday, Maken said that the modalities of a tournament would be finalised in consultation with the Basketball Federation of India (BFI).

It was a gathering at which Sharma's endearing personality was brought back in telling fashion by speaker after speaker.

What came out forcefully at the gathering was Sharma's unbridled enthusiasm in improving basketball standards in India, his ability as a sports administrator, the respect he earned not only from basketball players but also from sportsmen from other fields.
