In a bid to give competition at the junior level a boost, the World Squash Federation has decided to launch a WSF-World Junior Circuit which would also help in bringing out regular World Junior Rankings.
The U-19 junior circuit will have competitions in each country's National Junior Open, along with the regional championships (not Open), like Asian, European and the like in the various continents apart from the World Junior Championship.
Results from these events will be used to compute quarterly WSF World Junior Rankings for young men and women at the under-19 age level.
The WSF President N. Ramachandran said that the new initiative would help give additional significance to the efforts of various member nations in organising junior competitions.
“Our member nations and regions go to great lengths to foster the development of young talent. We can now recognise their efforts at the world level by linking together the calendar and providing world rankings,” he said.
The WSF will not be setting regulations for the events, but once the rankings are up they would provide a stronger guide for seedings, and for the world rankings that players can use to measure their progress.
