India will be hosting the Asian Volleyball Confederation Cup (fifth edition) for the first time in September 2016.
Speaking to The Hindu after inspecting the facilities in Raipur, AVC secretary Shanrit Wongprasert of Thailand said he was happy with the arrangements in the capital city of Chhattisgarh.
The Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Raman Singh, has offered full support to host the AVC Cup. “The hotel facilities and the stadium are good and the organising committee’s preparations are noteworthy,” he said.
“We need new cities to host the AVC Cup and Raipur fits the bill.”
AVC Cup is an eight-team event comprising India, defending champion Japan, Iran, China, Qatar, Australia, Chinese Taipei and Korea.
The top eight from the Asian championship, held in Iran, qualified for the AVC Cup. India — which finished 11th in the championship — was accommodated at the cost of Thailand, which finished eighth in the championship.
