Pooja Ghatkar clinched the top position in women’s air rifle in second selection trials as well, at the Karni Singh range in Tughlakabad on Thursday.
The 23-year-old from Pune shot 207.7 in the final to beat Elizabeth Koshy of Kerala by 2.6 points. She had topped the qualifiers list with a total of 416.7. With her consistent top level performance — she had clinched the silver medal in the national championship — she assured herself of a berth in the team for the first two World Cups to be held in Changwon, South Korea, in April and in Fort Benning, USA, in May.
In women’s 25m sport pistol, Olympian Rahi Sarnobat beat Anisa Sayeed 7-5 in the final.
National champion Sushma Singh outclassed Olympian Annu Raj Singh 8-2 for the third place.
Sushma Singh had topped the qualifying list with 582, one point ahead of Rahi; the qualifying scores do not count in the final.
Surabhi Pathak (577) could not make an impact in the knock-out final, while Anisa (576) and Annu Raj (573) had kept a low profile in the qualifying phase.
In men’s 50m free pistol, Gurpal Singh topped the list with 191.0 points, much ahead of Amit Kumar Pilaniya (186.8).
Jitu Rai who had topped the first trials was third, owing to a zero on the last shot, while Samaresh Jung placed fourth, ahead of Amanpreet Singh, Vipin Rana, Omkar Singh and Viraj Singh.
