Perfect day for Anirudh

March 05, 2010 01:05 am | Updated 01:05 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Anirudh Singh shot three perfect rounds to lead with a score of 75 along with Daniele Resca of Italy on the opening day of the trap competition in the shotgun World Cup at Acapulco, Mexico, on Wednesday.

World champion Manavjit Singh shot rounds of 25, 24 and 24 to closely follow the leaders along with Giovanni Pellielo of Italy and John Mullins of the US. The third member of the Indian trap team, Birendeep Sodhi, had rounds of 25, 23 and 23 to be 15th in a field of 40. The last two rounds and the final would be held on the second day.

Shreyasi disappoints

The Indian women trap shooters, the 18-year-old Shreyasi Singh in particular, could not sustain the good form displayed during the Commonwealth championship. Shreyasi had rounds of 20, 23 and 21 to finish 16th in a field of 20 with a total of 64.

Shagun Chowdhary shot the best among the Indian women, with a score of 66, following rounds of 22, 23 and 21, for the 13th slot. Seema Tomar shot 63.

Meanwhile, most of the Indian skeet shooters pulled out of the competition, owing to delay in procuring the permit for carrying weapons through the US. In fact, the trap squad was stranded in Chicago before the organisers came to the rescue by forwarding the permit.

The results:

Women: Trap: 1. Yang Huan (Chn) 92 (72); 2. Corey Codell (US) 91 (72); 3. Deborah Gelisio (Ita) 90 (70); 13. Shagun Chowdhary 66; 16. Shreyasi Singh 64; 17. Seema Tomar 63.
