P.V. Sindhu, reacting to her Macau triumph, said: “this is an important win for me as it is the first one of the season and helped me defend the title.”

In an exclusive interview with The Hindu from Macau, the 19-year-old said she was pleased with the way she played right through the event.

Asked whether there was pressure on her to win a major title, Sindhu replied in the negative. “I never think along those lines. I just go out and give my best.”

India’s chief national coach P. Gopi Chand described Sindhu’s win as a “welcome result.”

Playing well “It is always important to keep winning major titles frequently. She is definitely playing very well of late,” he said.
