Obulesu and Indresh win Chennai Marathon

Dasari Obulesu and Indresh Dhiraj were the winners of the men’s and women’s events respectively in this year’s edition of the Wipro Chennai Marathon.

Obulesu got off to a good start on Sunday and set a blistering pace to win it in 02:30:29 seconds.

Indresh, who had come in second in last year’s edition, won the women’s race in 03:36:29.

The full marathon which started at 4.00 am was flagged off by V.P. Senthil Kumar, race director TWCM 2014 and the half marathon was flagged off by Brigadier A.V.K. Mohan.

“I have put in a lot of hard work over the years. Weekly long-distance running and high altitude training in the Nilgiris has brought out the best in me,” said Obulesu, who is from the Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington.

“I thank my commanding officer who gave me complete freedom during my training sessions.”

Vinod of the Madras Regimental Centre won the men’s half-marathon while Vasanthamani from Erode won the women’s.

The results: Men: 1. D. Obulesu (02:30:29), 2. M. Jegadheesan (02:39:21), 3. Vairavanathan (02:49:08), 4. G. Kumar (02:51:01), 5. Peter Mandik (02:55:47). Women: 1. Indresh Dhiraj (03:36:29), 2. Sayuri Dalvi (03:48:19), 3. Shreya Adiraju (04:20:27).

Half marathon: Men: 1. Vinod (01:11:23), 2. G. Karthick (01:12:39), 3. D. Prakash (01:13:25), 4. S. Kiran (01:14:53), 5. Iven Moise (01:16:31). Women: 1. E. Vasanthamani (01:35:50), 2. Suganya (01:38:31), 3. R. Poongodi (01:42:47), 4. Aradhana Reddy (01:45:44), 5. M. Anjana (01:55:20).
