National shooting trials: Pooja on target again

Pooja Ghatkar topped the women’s air rifle for the second time in a field of 166 shooters, even as little known Gayatri Pawaskar beat the seasoned Anjali Bhagwat by 0.6 point to the second place, as the National shooting trials concluded at Tughlakabad on Wednesday.

National silver medallist Pooja, who beat Gayatri by one point, had a splendid finish with a 10.3 last shot to 9.8 by Gayatri. Shriyanka Sadangi was fourth and Ayonika Paul slipped to sixth place.

Former National champion and the bronze medallist in the recent edition of the National championship, Apurvi Chandela missed the final by 0.3 point, while the reigning National champion Mampi Das missed it by 0.8 point. In centre fire pistol, Vijay Kumar placed second in the second trial, after having topped the first.

The results: Men: Free rifle 3-position: 1. Satyendra Singh 457.0 (1150); 2. Ravi Kumar 452.0 (1148); 3. Imran Hasan Khan 440.5 (1150).

Centre fire pistol-II: 1. Mahendar Singh 584; 2. Vijay Kumar 583; 3. Samaresh Jung 581.

Centre fire pistol-I: 1. Vijay Kumar 584; 2. Gurpreet Singh 580; 3. Pemba Tamang 580. Sports pistol-II: Junior men: 1. Vishwajeet Singh 576; 2. Neeraj Kumar 568; 3. Samarjit Singh 567.

Sports pistol-1: Junior men: 1. Samarjit Singh 575; 2. Vishwajeet Singh 572; 3. Rushiraj Atul Barot 564.

Women: Air rifle: 1. Pooja Ghatkar 205.7 (415.5); 2. Gayatri Pawaskar 204.7 (413.7); 3. Anjali Bhagwat 184.3 (414.0). — Special Correspondent
