Punjab secured an emphatic 101-57 win over Haryana in a men’s Level I, Group B match of the senior National basketball championship at the Nehru indoor stadium here on Saturday.
Punjab led the contest for 38m 28s of the total 40 minutes. Tawinder Singh top-scored with 23 points, scoring thrice out of the three attempts from the inside and five out of the nine attempts from the outside.
Punjab scored 21 points from turnovers compared to Haryana’s seven. Also, the former had 40 fast break points and Haryana 14. Captain Deepak Rathee, Vishal Tiwari and Ankit scored 12 points each for Haryana.
Punjab has now won three of the four matches it has played.
Men’s defending champion Uttarakhand put its loss to Karnataka behind and beat Kerala by a 40-point margin (85-45).
Manu Thomas top-scored with 15 points as Karnataka defeated Odisha 78-40 (28-7, 22-4, 16-11, 12-18) in Level I, Group A.
In the women’s category, Railways drubbed Telangana 101-30 (35-11, 28-4, 27-3, 15-12) to post its fourth successive win in Level I, Group B.
Kerala women beat TN
Kerala defeated Tamil Nadu 69-53 (23-8, 10-10, 16-14, 20-21) in Level I, Group A. P. Jeena shone for Kerala with 17 points while V. Srividya emerged the top-scorer for Tamil Nadu for the second time in a row. Srividya had top-scored in the loss against Chhattisgarh, the match that Tamil Nadu managed to tie but lost in overtime.
