Narrow win for Mohammad Irfan

The Hash 10-National snooker and billiards championships got underway with Mohammad Irfan of Tamil Nadu winning a close encounter against Anmal Jalota of Punjab, nicking the game by a solitary point in the boys' sub-junior billiards division. Irfan won the first round contest 104-103, as Jalota ran out of time in the one-hour time format contest.

Kushal Makija of Rajasthan got the better of Karnataka's 13-year old Pranav Prabakar 209-103.

Ustav Ramani and Dhavaj Haria of Gujarat, Menezes Mark of Uttar Pradesh, Jaiveer Dhingara of Maharashtra and Asuthosh Padhy of Orissa were the other big winners of the day.

Earlier, Nikolay Listopadov, Consul-General of the Russian Federation in South India, inaugurated the National Championships.
