Gagan Narang asks what more he has to achieve in the world of shooting to get the "due recognition’ and importantly reminds that he just doesn’t have the motivation to shoot right now.
"I have decided to take a break and ponder about the Commonwealth Games later on," said a visibly dejected shooter in an exclusive chat with The Hindu .
The Hyderabadi, who had become the first Indian to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics with his bronze in the World championship last week in Zurich, insists that there is terribly disappointed at not getting the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. "I don’t want to sound to be complaining or trying to shoot at others. I am not someone to threaten even if I am ignored for the third time in a row for the prestigious award," he explained.
Gagan says that right now he would be away from shooting. "Well, any decision on taking part in the 2010 Commonwealth Games will be a collective one. I have to discuss with my federation, sponsors, family members and friends who have been of great support to me over the years," he explained.
"Certainly, I have not set any deadline of sort to be there back in action. As things stand I am not in the mood to pick up a gun and shoot," the unobtrusive champion shooter asserted. "Honestly, I don’t know what more a sportsperson can do than winning medals in a world championship. I am really happy with the bronze in the Worlds and more pleased at the fact that I had already booked a slot for the London Games," he explained to a query.
Gagan is waiting for a meeting with Union Sports Minister M. S. Gill in Delhi before leaving for his hometown. "Let us see how things move on. Hopefully, I should get some clarity in due course," he signed off with a tinge of disappointment.
