Former world champion Lewis Hamilton caused a few chuckles at the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday when he accidently pulled into the pits of his former team McLaren.
Hamilton came in for a tyre change in the eighth lap of the race and instead of driving to the Mercedes mechanics, went to the pits of McLaren, where he had spent the first six years of his F1 career between 2007 and 2012, winning the 2008 world title.
The surprised McLaren crew waved him through and Hamilton only lost little time as he continued on to Mercedes for new rubbers.
“Smiles in the garage after a well-worked double pit stop with an unexpected twist... Feel free to pop in and say ‘hi’ any time, @LewisHamilton!” McLaren tweeted.
Former F1 driver David Coulthard quipped on the BBC: “That’s what happens when you spend most of your career with one colour.”
However, Hamilton made no mistake when he came for his next stop in the 22nd lap.
