Matches shifted due to damage to court

April 27, 2017 09:24 pm | Updated 09:24 pm IST - Chennai:

A slight damage to a part of the wooden flooring at the backcourt of the Express Avenue all-glass court forced the organisers to shift the remaining matches to ISA on Thursday evening.

Joshna Chinappa was the first one to point out the damage during the second game against Philippines’ Jemyca Aribado in the pre-quarterfinals. After deliberations with the officials, Joshna continued to play and went on to win the match.

However, the officials decided not to continue further matches on that court.

Tournament director Cyrus Poncha said: “This is a temporary glitch. We are hopeful of the issue getting sorted as soon as possible. We will make sure we come back and play here tomorrow. In the worst case scenario, we can also move all the matches to the Indian Squash Academy. The matches will go on as scheduled,” he said.
